The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission has expressed sadness over the tragic and senseless death of a Nigerian national, Emeka Christian, in Pune, India, who was allegedly beaten to death by two of his compatriots, Chukwudi Okafor, 31, and Samuel Eze, over a romantic dispute.
NIDCOM Chairperson, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, in a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja, extended her deepest condolences to the bereaved family and loved ones, stating that no family should endure such heartbreak.
The statement, signed by the Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocol, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, said the commission had called on the Indian authorities to thoroughly investigate the incident and ensure that justice is served.
“NIDCOM calls on the relevant Indian authorities to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation, ensuring that justice is served without delay.”
NIDCOM urged Nigerians in the diaspora, stating, “As ambassadors of our great nation in your respective domains, your actions abroad reflect on Nigeria’s image.”
As such, the commission urged citizens to choose unity, respect, and lawfulness in every situation.
“Violence has no place among us. Together, we can build a stronger and more positive diaspora community,” the statement added.
The commission also urged all Nigerians in the diaspora to always be their brother’s keeper, resolve conflicts peacefully through dialogue, and uphold the highest standards of conduct.
