RE: REAFFIRMATION OF OUR CANDIDACY AND LEGITIMATE ELECTION
The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Council (JCC), Oyo State, hereby reaffirms the credibility, legitimacy, and constitutional backing of the election conducted at Oke-Ogun Polytechnic.
The election was conducted successfully, with 13 duly recognized senators physically present. Other senators, who were unavoidably absent due to distance constraints, have since communicated their full endorsement and unwavering support for the outcome of the process, further strengthening its legitimacy.
It is, however, both unfortunate and deeply misleading that certain individuals, Comrade Oyewumi Festus (NAPS Senate President), Oladoja Mubarak (Megabite), Benedict Olalere (Otunba), NAOS National President, and Babatunde Lanre, alongside the mastermind of this faction, Prince Adebowale Adebayo Falana, Chairman, Oyo State Agency for Youth Development have chosen to promote a baseless narrative of a so called factional JCC leadership in Oyo State.
For the avoidance of doubt, the individual being paraded as a “factional chairman” was duly disqualified by the Independent Convention Planning Committee (IN-CPC), alongside other ineligible aspirants, during the transition process. This decision was reached strictly in line with the constitutional provisions guiding NANS, and it remains final and binding.
It is also pertinent to state that the said individual, a former Union President of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, is currently an HND 1 part-time student of Oyo State College of Agricultural Technology (OYSCATECH), Igboora. By established constitutional standards, only full-time students are eligible to contest for executive positions. Any attempt to circumvent this provision is a clear violation of due process and an affront to the integrity of student leadership.
The ongoing attempt to create confusion within the student community is not only illegitimate but also a deliberate effort to undermine due process, constitutional order, and the collective will of the students.
We therefore call on all stakeholders, students, and the general public to disregard any statements, directives, or representations emanating from this illegitimate faction, as they hold no constitutional recognition within NANS JCC, Oyo State.
Furthermore, we call on all relevant security agencies to take note of this development and ensure the immediate arrest and prosecution of any individual who parades or identifies himself or herself as NANS JCC Oyo State, except ABDULAZEEZ Uthman Olawale, for impersonation.
NANS remains committed to unity, transparency, and the protection of democratic principles within the student community, and will not be distracted by actions that seek to derail its lawful leadership.
E-signed
Ibrahim Oladipupo Ajuwon
General secretary, NANS JCC Oyo state
ABDULAZEEZ Uthman Olawale
Chairman, NANS JCC Oyo state
