Recently, Chief Ahmed Ajibola, popularly known as General H, made a statement that has left many in the academic community stunned. He claimed that Lead City University and the University of Ibadan are the only recognized institutions in Oyo State, completely disregarding the reputation and accreditation of other esteemed institutions, including The Polytechnic, Ibadan. As a stakeholder of this revered institution, we feel compelled to respond to this assertion and set the record straight.
The Polytechnic, Ibadan, has a rich history spanning over five decades, during which it has established itself as a beacon of academic excellence. With a legacy of producing outstanding graduates who have made significant contributions to society, our institution has earned a reputation for quality education and innovation. The Polytechnic Ibadan, is duly accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), and its various programs have been recognized globally.
Chief Ahmed Ajibola’s claim is not only misinformed but also has the potential to cause harm to our institution’s reputation. By suggesting that The Polytechnic Ibadan, is not a recognized institution, he may deter prospective students from applying, thereby undermining the very fabric of our academic community. Furthermore, his statement demonstrates a blatant disregard for the hard work and dedication of our students, staff, and alumni.
We also use this medium to warn Chief Ahmed Ajibola and as well implore him to act in accordance to his chieftaincy title in order not to be labelled as nonentity who has no enough knowledge of educational settings of Ibadan. Though, a reasonable individual who in every manner is conversant of the rich historic educational value of Ibadan will not avoid recognizing an institution like the Polytechnic, Ibadan and render a solid 50 years of academia untraceable.
In light of this controversy, we urge the alumni, students, and the good people of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, to stand in solidarity with our institution. We also call on you to reconsider patronizing Chief Ahmed Ajibola’s businesses, including: Copacapana: a popular nightclub located at 18 Awolowo Avenue, Bodija, Ibadan and Copacapana Group of Companies: a conglomerate with various interests – by boycotting his businesses, we can demonstrate our commitment to protecting our institution’s legacy and promoting a culture of respect and truth.
In conclusion, The Polytechnic, Ibadan, is a recognized institution with a long history of academic excellence. We will not let misinformation and disparaging comments go unchallenged. We urge Chief Ahmed Ajibola to retract his statement and apologize for the harm caused. Until then, we hope that our community will stand united in defense of our institution’s reputation and legacy.
By standing together, we can ensure that The Polytechnic, Ibadan, continues to thrive and maintain its position as a leading institution of higher learning in Nigeria.
