Grade A Customary Court sitting at Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, has heard the divorce suit brought before it by a man, Mustapha, against his wife, Kafilatu, whom he accused of irresponsibility, stubbornness, adultery and fetishism.
Mustapha explained that Kafilatu constantly neglected her duties in the home and made it unwelcoming for him.
Mustapha also stated that Kafilatu was stubborn and always insisted on having her way.
According to him, Kafilatu was in the habit of going out without his consent.
He added that she betrayed the trust he had in her because she was promiscuous and in the habit of entertaining her lovers in their home whenever he was out of town.
The plaintiff also said that the defendant was fetish and was always in possession of horrific objects and also engaged in ritual practices.
Mustapha told the court that he had had enough of his wife’s atrocities and thus prayed the court to end their relationship.
Kafilatu refused to make an appearance in court despite being served court summonses.
Mustapha, in his evidence, said: “I paid my wife’s bride price when we contracted our marriage which is blessed with four children.
“My wife is stubborn and always insists on having her way.
“She rubbed shoulders with me and made all attempts to usurp my position in the home.
“She was also in the habit of going out without my consent.
“My wife was in the habit of abandoning her duties in the home and staying out for as long as she pleased.
“She was indifferent to our children’s welfare and always chose her outings over them.
“I stopped putting my trust in her after I discovered that she is promiscuous.
“She was fond of bringing her lovers into our home any time I was out of town.
“I once sent her packing as a result of her disgraceful act, but I took her back after much pleading from her promising to change.
“Kafilatu became a pain in the neck after she returned to my house; she made life difficult for me.
“My wife became diabolic and was always found with strange and horrifying objects.
“She also engaged in ritual practices.
“I got married to another woman who bore me beautiful children since Kafilatu refused to give me peace of mind.
“My lord, my mind is made up on selling the house Kafilatu is staying in because it belongs to me.
“I can no longer tolerate my wife’s atrocities, which was why I came to court.”
The court president, Mrs S. M. Akintayo, adjourned the case for judgment.
