Grade A Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, has adjourned till August 5, further hearing on the divorce suit brought before it by a man, Khalid, against his wife, Hafsa, on the grounds of irresponsibility, misbehaviour and violence.
Khalid explained that Hafsa became a thorn in the flesh after he impregnated her, and she moved in with him.
According to him, she was quarrelsome and violent and always sought every opportunity to fight and wound him.
The plaintiff stated that the defendant, of recent, took to threatening him in his house and office, which he found embarrassing.
He thus entreated the court to stop their relationship.
He further pleaded for an order stopping his wife from threatening, fighting, and interfering with his private life.
Hafsa failed to make an appearance in court despite being served court summonses.
Khalid, in his testimony, said, “I met my wife on my way to a function.
“I chatted her up, and we started dating shortly after this.
“I have never met any of her family members, so I do not know any of them.
“I impregnated her while we were dating, and I decided that she moved in with me.
“We held no wedding ceremony, and I paid nothing as her brideprice.
“Hafsa started misbehaving immediately she moved in with me.
“She failed to carry out the roles expected of her as a woman.
“She always looked unkempt and also left our apartment untidy.
“She also hates to be corrected.
“Hafsa refused that I had peace of mind.
“She made our home unwelcoming and too hot for comfort because of her regular fights.
“My wife lost control of herself whenever she was angry and would go for any object within her reach to fight me.
“I sent her packing before she snuffed life out of me.
“Hafsa has vowed that I know no peace.
“She comes to my house and workplace to threaten and fight me.
“She has turned me into a source of ridicule before those who know me, and I feel sad about this.
“My lord, I earnestly plead with this honourable court to rule that our marriage is dissolved.
“I further pray for an order hindering her from coming to my house and shop to threaten, fight, and interfere with my private life.
The court president, Mrs S.M Akintayo, adjourned the case.
