My Husband Accused Me Of Infidelity, Beat Me, Threw Me Out In The Cold —Wife

A woman, Salamotu, has told Grade A Customary Court, sitting at Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, that she is no longer interested in her union with her husband, Salami, whom she accused of lack of love, care and trust, and also battery.

Salamotu stated that she had not enjoyed her marriage to Salami because he denied her attention and love.

She also claimed that Salami refused that she had peace of mind because he always complained that she returned home late from work and also alleged that she was cheating on him with her customers.

According to the plaintiff, the defendant, apart from beating her on a regular basis, once locked her out late in the night, and she had to sleep outside in the cold.

Salamotu stated that there was no longer love between her and her husband and, as such, prayed for the dissolution of their union.

She entreated the court for their children’s custody, and she also pleaded that the court order her husband to be responsible for their upkeep and give priority to their feeding, education and general health.

Salamotu further requested an order restricting her husband from threatening and encroaching on her privacy.

Salami agreed that their wedlock be dissolved.

He stated that Salamotu lacked the qualities of a virtuous woman.

Salami told the court that Salamotu once called the police on him during a fight.

He further stated that he had taken a new wife who already had children for him.

Salamotu, in her testimony, said, “I moved in with my husband a few months after we met.

“We did not carry out any of the marital rites known to our culture, neither did he pay my bride price.

“My husband succeeded in making my life unbearable. He constantly complained about me coming home late from work.

“He never trusted me.

“My husband falsely accused me of having affairs with my customers and for this, he made my life difficult.

“He constantly embarrassed me by fighting my customers, and this took its toll on my business.

“My husband was in the habit of beating me. He once threw me out late in the night after he dealt me heavy blows, and I slept outside in the cold.

“He brought back home his first wife whom he sent packing before we met, and she brought rivalry into our home.

“He also took to monitoring me.

“My lord, I do not wish to go further in my relationship with my husband.

“I, therefore, appeal to this honourable court to end our relationship.

“I pray that the court grants me our children’s custody and mandate my husband to be responsible for their welfare.

“I further request an order restricting him from threatening and interfering with my privacy.”

Salami in his response said: “She is free to go. I am also no longer interested in living under the same roof with a whore.

“She has constantly been unfaithful to me. She once got me arrested following a fight.
