Money Shouldn’t Control Marriage – Actress Mo Bewa

Actress and fashion entrepreneur, Omobewaji Oyediji, popularly known as Mo Bewa, has said women who earn more than their partners should be able to contribute financially to their households.

Speaking in an interview with Saturday Beats, Oyediji stressed that marriage and family life should be viewed as a partnership rather than a competition.

“A home is not a competition; it’s a partnership. If a woman earns more, she should be able to support the family without feeling guilty or being judged, because the goal is to build stability together. In the same way a man would do it naturally, a woman can do it too,” she said.

According to her, money should never be used as a tool for control in a relationship. She added, “When love and teamwork are the foundation, whoever has more at the moment can carry the family, because seasons change. At the end of the day, the real question is not who earns more, but who is committed to building the home and protecting the peace.”

The actress also addressed the viral rant she made recently, in which she criticised people who overspend during Detty December only to struggle financially in January.

“It was a mix of concern and frustration because I kept seeing the same cycle every year; people spending money they don’t have to impress people who won’t help them in January. Detty December is fun, and I love enjoyment too, but a lot of people confuse ‘soft life’ with irresponsible spending.”

Oyediji also weighed in on the growing pressure on entertainers to “look the part” in today’s highly visual, social media–driven industry.

“The pressure is higher than ever, especially because social media is so visual. People now judge entertainers in seconds—how you dress, how you show up, how you present yourself online. It’s no longer just about talent; it’s about the full package. An entertainer can have a good voice or strong acting skills, but if they don’t look like they take themselves seriously, the industry may not take them seriously either,” she said.
