A man, Azeez Tajudeen, has been arraigned before an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court for defiling a six-year-old girl (names withheld) now deceased.
Tajudeen was arraigned on a two-count amended charge bordering on defilement and involuntary manslaughter by the Lagos State.
The offences are contrary to Sections 137 and 224 and punishable under Section 229 Ch.C17, Vol 3, Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
Prosecuting counsel Dare Dada told the court that the defendant allegedly defiled the girl about 16.00hrs on October 9, 2023, at Morcas, Ayobo, Lagos.
The defendant pleaded not guilty.
Asked by the trial judge, Justice Rahman Oshodi, of his counsel, a lawyer, Nosa Emmanuel, volunteered to defend him.
Dada urged the court to remand the defendant pending commencement of trial.
Justice Oshodi ordered the remand of the defendant in custody of Nigeria the Correction Service (NCoS), Kirikiri, Lagos.
Justice Oshodi adjourned the matter till September 30 for hearing.
