Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has approved the payment of N550 million in gratuities and death benefits for another batch of retirees and next of kin of deceased pensioners.
Announcing the approval on Tuesday at the flag-off ceremony for the monthly disbursement, Chairman of the Oyo State Local Government Staff Pension Board, Akeem Ige, reiterated the government’s commitment to pensioners’ welfare.
“The government introduced the monthly payment system to accelerate gratuity disbursement and improve the well-being of beneficiaries, with 134 retirees set to benefit this month,” Ige said.
He added, “The recent upward pension review, aligned with the minimum wage adjustments, has set the minimum pension payment in the state at N25,000.”
Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary of the Local Government Staff Pension Board, Lukman Muraina, disclosed that the I Am Alive programme, designed to verify the status of retirees, will commence after the monthly payment exercise.
