LP Lawmaker Resigns, Moves To APC In Delta

The political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections are gaining ground in Delta State, as Hon. Ngozi Okolie, member of the House of Representatives representing Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency, officially announced his resignation from the Labour Party, citing internal disorganisation and lack of direction within the party.

Okolie made the announcement of his resignation and defection to the APC at a press conference on Friday evening at his country home in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

He declared, “I am no longer a member of the Labour Party. I don’t know what tomorrow will bring, but I believe this decision will bring progress and more good things to my people.”

Dissatisfied with the Labour Party’s internal structure and direction at the national level, the lawmaker lamented over the disconnection in his ex-party, the Labour Party, the party that brought him to the limelight, saying, “To be honest, the Labour Party is disorganised. There is no direction, and the problems are too many. I don’t think we can make progress in the National Assembly with all that confusion.”

He said he is formally joining other “progressives” in the APC, citing strong support from key stakeholders, including the Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, and several traditional rulers.

“I spoke with many traditional rulers and people in my area before making this decision. Some people agreed with me, and some didn’t. But sometimes, a leader has to make tough decisions. So, instead of waiting for the Labour Party problem to be solved, which seems unending, I think it will be best to join the APC for the interest of my people.”

Hon. Okolie explained that his primary motivation is to attract development projects such as better roads, schools, and improved security to his constituency, stressing that the realignment with the APC will help achieve these goals.

He further stressed that the delay in switching parties was deliberate, as he wanted to avoid the appearance of opportunism.

“I have two years left as a lawmaker, and I want to use this time to do great things for Aniocha/Oshimili. I want to be remembered for the good things I did, not for staying in a party that was not working,” Hon. Okolie said.
