Kidnappers Who Abducted Edo Doctor, Killed Brother Arrested After Taking Kids To Victim’s Hospital For Treatment

Suspected kidnappers who abducted a medical doctor in Auchi, Edo State, and killed his younger brother have been arrested after they were allegedly identified by their victim at the hospital where he works.

Sources revealed that the suspects were apprehended after they took their children to the same hospital for medical treatment, only for the kidnapped doctor, identified as Dr. Abu Ibrahim Babatunde, to walk into the ward and recognise them.

The suspects were subsequently taken into police custody.

“The kidnappers brought their children to the same hospital where the doctor works for treatment on Tuesday night, only for Dr. Tunde to walk into the ward and recognise them,” a source familiar with the incident said.

Tahir was abducted alongside his younger brother, Abu Tahir, on January 2, 2026, at their residence on City Pride Road, Igbira Camp, Auchi, while they were opening the gate to their compound.

Tragically, the body of his brother was discovered on January 5 near Orley River, along City Pride Road, Igbira Camp. He was reportedly killed by the abductors.

A video clip obtained by SaharaReporters on Sunday shows two men in handcuffs seated inside what appears to be a police charge room, while a voice in the background identifies them as the suspects involved in the kidnapping.

The media had earlier reported that the doctor was kidnapped alongside his brother, had recently graduated as a medical student but had not yet started his housemanship, on January 2, at their residence along City Pride Road, Igbira Camp, Auchi, while opening the gate to their compound.

While Ibrahim Babatunde was later released after ransom was paid, his brother was not as fortunate.

On January 15, it was reported that Ibrahim Babatunde regained his freedom after his family paid a ransom of ₦50 million to the kidnappers.

Speaking at the time, the victim’s father disclosed that the ransom was paid in two tranches of ₦20 million and ₦30 million, with funds raised through the combined efforts of family members, non-governmental organisations, friends and other well-wishers.

“My son has been released by the kidnappers after we paid ₦50 million. I feel good that he has been released, but I also lost another son,” the grieving father had said.

He added that his released son sustained a gunshot injury to the leg during captivity and was receiving medical treatment, while vigilantes and hunters who laid ambush for the kidnappers before the release told the family that one of the suspects also suffered gunshot wounds.

“The family, organisations, friends and well-wishers contributed the ₦50 million ransom. My son was brushed by a bullet but he is receiving treatment at a hospital,” he said.
