The Kano Hisbah Board has intercepted a vehicle conveying assorted alcoholic beverages into the state from Lagos.
Mujahideen Aminuddeen, Deputy Commander-General of the Board, confirmed the development on Tuesday.
Aminuddeen said the operation followed intelligence reports indicating that the consignment was being transported from Lagos to Kano.
He said: “Operatives of the Fagge patrol command acted swiftly on the information by successfully stopping the vehicle and seizing the alcoholic beverages.”
According to him, investigations showed that the consignment was sent by a woman based in Lagos, adding that about 13 packs of assorted alcoholic drinks were recovered during the operation.
He added that the driver of the vehicle had been arrested to assist ongoing investigations, while efforts were underway to apprehend the sender.
The hisbah official appealed to residents to report activities that violate social norms or the provisions of Islamic law.
Aminuddeen said public cooperation was vital to the effectiveness of hisbah operations in the state.
The seizure comes days after the Kano state road traffic agency intercepted and handed over three truckloads of beer to the hisbah board on December 11.
The agency also impounded the vehicles, which were said to be carrying 410 cartons of alcoholic beverages worth millions of naira.
Aminuddeen said the development showed the commitment of the Hisbah Board and other agencies to curbing the circulation of alcohol in the state.
