Israel has revealed that it has killed the Iranian naval commander responsible for mining and blockading the Strait of Hormuz.
Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz during a briefing said that his military had “eliminated” Alireza Tangsiri, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy, “in a precise and lethal operation” overnight.
Katz said Tangsiri was killed “along with senior naval command officials,” adding: “The individual who was directly responsible for the terrorist operation involving the mining and blockade of the Strait of Hormuz has been taken out.”
Iran did not immediately confirm or deny his death. The IRGC Navy is a branch of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps — a paramilitary, political, and economic powerhouse within the Iranian state — and operates separately from the regular Iranian Navy.
If confirmed, Tangsiri’s killing would be the latest in a series of Israeli assassinations targeting senior figures in the Iranian regime.
GISTSMATE MEDIA reports that some of the senior Iranian figures has been killed so far, since the US and Israel carried out coordinated military strikes on Iran since February 28.
They include former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, security adviser Ali Shamkhani, IRGC commander-in-chief Mohammad Pakpour, Defence Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh, armed forces chief of staff Abdolrahim Mousavi, intelligence minister Esmail Khatib, Supreme National Security Council secretary Ali Larijani, and Basij commander Gholamreza Soleimani.
