The Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Bayo Ojulari, has alleged that powerful interests within the oil and gas sector are plotting his removal from office.
Ojulari made the claim on Thursday during a meeting with a delegation of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), led by its President, Festus Osifo, at the NNPCL headquarters in Abuja.
He disclosed that his life, as well as those of some members of the company’s management team, had come under threat.
According to him, his “offence” lies in implementing reforms directed by President Bola Tinubu to revive Nigeria’s moribund refineries and reposition the petroleum sector.
He further disclosed that the company was exploring the Nigeria LNG model in its refinery rehabilitation efforts, stressing that management would not relent until the facilities operate optimally.
Responding to concerns raised by the PENGASSAN leadership on the stability of the NNPCL and the sector at large, Ojulari insisted he would stay the course despite mounting pressures.
“I’m not hiding from anybody. I’m not a politician. I may have to learn a bit about politics, but for me, this is about development, and I’m ready to learn,” he added.
