Jos Residents Observe Funeral Prayer For Buhari In Absentia (Photos)

Some residents of Jos, the Plateau state capital, have performed Ga’ib – funeral prayer in absentia for the soul of late former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Buhari died on Sunday evening at a clinic in London and would be buried on Tuesday in Daura, Katsina state.

The funeral prayer was performed on Monday evening in Yandoya community of Jos North local government area of the state.

Our correspondents report that the funeral prayer was attended by hundreds of sympathizers who came from different communities.

According to the residents, their participation in the prayer was their way of praying for Allah to show mercy on his soul.

Speaking shortly after the funeral prayer, Malam Muhammad Buhari, an Imam in the community who led the funeral, said late President Buhari was a leader who, within his capacity, contributed greatly to the country, reiterating that despite his shortcomings, the former president deserved to be honored buy all and sundry.

The Imam added that the announcement by Aisha Buhari to Nigerians on behalf of her husband to forgive him his wrongdoings had also triggered them to organize the prayer, noting that the prayer is in line with the teachings of Islam, as such prayers were performed during the time of Prophet Muhammad.

Community leader of Garba Daho, Muhammad Sagir Umar, who participated in the prayer, noted that President Buhari deserved to be prayed for considering his contribution to the development of the country, “Since we cannot travel to Katsina to participate in the funeral prayer, we find it necessary to perform our prayer from Jos and ask Allah to forgive former President Buhari.”

Abdullahi Sulaiman, an attendee of the funeral said, ‘I would have loved to be in Katsina to attend the funeral service but I don’t have the capacity. To show my respect for the former president, I participated in the prayer in Jos. I pray Allah forgives him. We are all human beings and we have our shortcomings. Buhari has his own shortcomings, so we ask Allah to show him mercy.”

Our correspondent reports that hundreds of the attendees of the funeral wished they had travelled to Buhari’s hometown for the funeral.
