Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Wednesday set out conditions for a possible end to the war, saying the only way to halt the fighting would be international guarantees ensuring a permanent end to all attacks.
Writing on X, Pezeshkian also called for reparations and said Iranâs âlegitimate rightsâ must be recognized.
He did not specify which rights he meant, but observers of Iranian domestic politics say he may have been referring to the appointment of a new supreme leader and the need for international recognition.
Earlier this week, U.S. President Donald Trump said he was ânot happyâ with the appointment of Mojtaba Khamenei as Iranâs new religious leader and head of state, saying the new leader should expect significant difficulties.
âI donât believe he can live in peace,â Trump said, without giving further details.
GISTSMATE MEDIA reported that the Iranâs military command has warned that global oil prices could surge to $200 per barrel after three ships were attacked in the Strait of Hormuz, further escalating tensions in one of the worldâs most critical oil transit routes.
The warning was issued on Wednesday by Ebrahim Zolfaqari, spokesperson for Iranâs military command, following renewed strikes in the region as the conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States intensifies.
The latest escalation comes as oil markets, which had rallied sharply earlier in the week, showed signs of stabilising in recent days as investors bet that the conflict could be resolved quickly.
However, renewed attacks in the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow passage along Iranâs coast that handles about one-fifth of global oil shipments, have revived concerns about fresh supply disruptions.
Zolfaqari warned that instability in the Middle East could drive oil prices significantly higher, blaming the United States and its allies for destabilising regional security. Read moreÂ
