The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has dragged a social crusader, Emorioloye Owolemi, before the Federal High Court sitting in Akure, Ondo State, over alleged cyberstalking.
Owolemi is standing trial on a two-count charge marked FHC/AK/3C/26, bordering on the alleged transmission of offensive and menacing messages against the minister via his Facebook page.
According to the charge sheet, the defendant allegedly committed the offence on December 23, 2025, at Igbokoda in Ilaje Local Government Area of the state, by knowingly sending electronic communications described as “grossly offensive, indecent, obscene or menacing” to the public.
Count one reads, “That you, Emorioloye Owolemi, Male, Adult, on or about the 23rd day of December 2025, at Igbokoda in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, did knowingly and intentionally sent messages and/or other electronic communications through a computer system and/or network to the public via Facebook, against the Honourable Minister of Interior of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, whose messages were grossly offensive, indecent, obscene, or menacing in character, thereby committing the offence of cyberstalking.”
The prosecution said the alleged acts contravened Section 24(1)(a) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, as amended in 2024.
The second count accused Owolemi of cyberstalking by threat and harassment, contrary to Section 24(1)(b) of the same Act.
The court has consequently fixed March 26 for the hearing in the matter.
The case is coming against the backdrop of lingering controversy surrounding the minister’s National Youth Service Corps certificate, with allegations of forgery and abuse of office still swirling — the kind of gist that just won’t die down.
Recall that on February 13, Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, granted Owolemi’s application to inquire into the academic qualifications of the Minister, specifically the Secondary School Certificate allegedly issued to the Minister by the West African Examinations Council.
Conversely, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the same court had denied a similar request by the activist, concerning the minister’s discharge certificate allegedly issued by the National Youth Service Corps.
The judge held that the applicant failed to indicate that he was acting in the public interest, as required by law.
