A 50-year-old man, Modu Isa, in Bama, Borno State attempted suicide after his former wife refused to return home.
According to The Nation, the incident occurred on Friday evening in Hausari Ward.
Eyewitnesses said Isa stabbed himself three times in the stomach and cut off his penis with a knife as community members rushed to his aid and reported the incident to the police.
The police responded promptly, recovering the knife as evidence and evacuating Isa to General Hospital, Bama, where he is receiving treatment.
The case has been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Maiduguri for further investigation.
It is gathered that Isa’s former wife, Bayanxe Modu, whom he had divorced three times, declined to return to his house, prompting the desperate act.
