A 35-year-old man, Ifaodojutimi Olamide, was arraigned in Ibadan Grade A Magistrate Court, Iyaganku area, Oyo State, on a two-count charge bordering on indecent assault and beating a 17-year-old girl, identified as Taiwo.
The defendant allegedly beat the girl severely when she frowned at the manner in which he reportedly placed his hand on a seat she wanted to occupy and stylishly grabbed her buttocks.
The incident that led to the arraignment occurred on Wednesday, March 18.
In the charge sheet with suit number OY/CCGA/IBN2/48C/2026, Count One read: âThat you, Ifaodojutimi Olamide, on the 18th of March, 2026, at about 2 p.m., at Leventis area, Ibadan, in Ibadan Customary District did indecently assault one Adekunle Taiwo âfâ by using your hand to hit her bottom (buttocks) and breasts and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 360 of the Criminal Code Cap 38 Vol. II Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria 2000.â
Count Two read: âThat you, Ifaodojutimi Olamide, on the same date, time and place, in aforementioned customary district did assault one Adekunle Taiwo âfâ by beating her and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 351 of the Criminal Code Cap 38 Vol. II Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria 2000.â
After Olamide pleaded not guilty to the charges read to him, Magistrate O.S. Yusuf granted him a bail of N350,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Magistrate Yusuf said that one of the sureties must be the defendantâs blood relation, while the second surety must have evidence of landed property.
Also part of the bail conditions was the verification of suretiesâ addresses and affidavit of means.
Saturday Tribune gathered that what led to the arraignment began when the teenager, who is an apprentice to a fashion designer, went to a shop close to her bossâs to show a cloth she was adjusting.
She told Saturday Tribune when the incident occurred: âI went to the shop next to my bossâs to show her the job she asked me to do. She was charging her phone in the shop so she asked me to sit in front of her. As I made to sit down, my attacker, who came to the shop to drink, quickly opened his palm on where I intended sitting, unknown to me. As I sat, he used his hand to grab my buttocks. I was so infuriated that I used the small phone I held to wave him off, asking him why he would do that to me. Instead of being remorseful, he descended on me and started pummelling me.
âHe kicked me so hard on the ground where I collapsed during the beating. He punched my breasts and chest while my body was against a big stone. I started feeling pains in my bones, and his nails scratched my neck and head.
âWhen my boss frowned at his action, he also threatened to beat her, so people held her to prevent it.â
The case was immediately reported at Sango Police Station, Oyo State Police Command, leading to his arrest.
The aggrieved teenager spoke further: âThereafter, I went to a hospital where I was treated for injuries sustained. However, Iâm still having pains in my breasts and chest, making me afraid of damage to my ribs.â
However, the suspect, who admitted beating the girl, claimed that his hand was on the table when she sat on it, and in his attempt to retrieve the hand, he was slapped, prompting his reaction.
The case has been adjourned till April 22 for hearing.
