‘I Will Join APC On Wednesday’, Top PDP Governor Says As Party Gets New Chairman

Taraba Governor Agbu Kefas has revealed that he will officially dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP for the All Progressives Congress (APC) at a ceremony in Jalingo, the state capital next Wednesday, November 19, 2025.

Kefas revealed this while inspecting ongoing renovation of the Jolly Nyame Stadium that will be used to receive him and his loyalists to APC on Saturday.

The Governor said said his decision to dump the PDP to APC was in furtherance of interests and future of Taraba residents rather than for personal gains.

“On the 19th of November, I will officially transition from PDP to APC. This movement is about the destiny of the people of Taraba, and we are expecting many visitors for the ceremony,” Kefas said.

He, however, said he will reveal more on his decision to join the APC in the speech that he will deliver during the defection event.

Kefas said this will allow the people of the state to judge if his decision was right or wrong.

Members of the Governor’s cabinet have declared support for his decision to move to APC.

Speaking on behalf the cabinet members, the State Commissioner for Science and Technology, Muslim Aruwa, said he and his colleagues will move with the governor to any party he desired.

He said members of the cabinet are fully with the governor on his new political direction.

“The Governor is our leader. Wherever he goes, we move with him—be it APC, SDP, or ADC. This alignment with the Federal Government is for the good of all citizens, not for personal gain. It is about bringing development to the state,” Aruwa said.

“This movement is not just for the governor, but for the entire people of Taraba State, and we are with him 100 percent.”

His detection is coming amidst Kabiru Turaki emergence as the PDP National Chairman at the party’s national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, where delegates from 17 states gathered to elect new national officers.

The former minister secured 1,516 votes in the election conducted at the Lekan Salami Stadium.

A former Anambra Central Senator, Ben Obi, who supervised the exercise, announced that Senator Yakubu Danmarke finished second with 275 votes.

The newly elected Chairman assured party members and supporters that his leadership will usher in reforms aimed at restoring internal democracy and ending impunity within the party.
