I Install Air Conditioners In Cells For Suspects – FCT Commissioner Of Police

The Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory, Ahmed Sanusi, on Wednesday, said detention facilities under his command have been equipped with air conditioners to ensure humane treatment of suspects.

Sanusi disclosed this during a press briefing in Abuja, stating that suspects deserve dignity while in police custody.

“To the extent to which I have been upholding human rights, even my cells have air conditioners. I make sure I install air conditioners for the suspects, and when they go out, they are even happier, and they talk a lot about it.

“Yes, because I feel they are human beings and they should be treated as such,” he said.

Sanusi disclosed this during a press briefing in Abuja, stating that suspects deserve dignity while in police custody.

He added, “We are going to do just that, even here, and even improve more on it. The fact that we arrest you does not mean that you are condemned, regardless of whatever crime you have committed, until we take you to court.

“The court will decide your fate, but once you are with us, we’ll give you the best of treatment, and once we give you the best of treatment at the time we release you, you have become our friend because you are going to talk good about us and then you are going to also say no the police is different now.”

Meanwhile, Sanusi warned that individuals involved in manhole vandalism would be treated as economic saboteurs.

“Anybody arrested in connection with manhole vandalisation will not be treated as an ordinary thief,” he said.

He added that security agencies would also go after buyers of stolen materials and intensify night patrols to curb criminal activities in the territory.

Sanusi assumed duty as the 35th Commissioner of Police in charge of the Federal Capital Territory on Tuesday.
