The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Osun State on Community Engagement, Hon. Sulaimon Musa Olalekan, has reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to grassroots participation in climate change mitigation and renewable energy initiatives.
He made this known while attending the Climate Change and Renewable Energy Stakeholders’ Meeting organized by the Office of the Consultant to the Governor on Climate Change, Prof. Chinwe Obuaku Igwe.
The meeting brought together policymakers, academics, experts, and representatives of key sectors to deliberate on strategies for addressing the growing challenges of climate change while leveraging renewable energy solutions for sustainable development in Osun State.
Representing the voice of the grassroots, Hon. Sulaimon emphasized that policies and programs around climate action must not only remain at the policy table but must reach the communities directly affected.
He noted that farmers, market women, artisans, and local associations are already experiencing the harsh realities of climate change through irregular rainfall, flooding, and food insecurity, and therefore must be central in shaping and benefiting from government interventions.
“Our people at the grassroots are not just victims of climate change; they are also partners in the solution. This administration under Governor Ademola Adeleke is determined to ensure that no community is left behind as we embrace renewable energy and sustainable practices,” Hon. Sulaimon stated.
In his closing remarks, Hon. Sulaimon urged residents of Osun State to take active steps in protecting their environment and adopting renewable practices within their means. He called on communities to embrace simple but effective actions such as planting trees, reducing waste, conserving energy, and supporting government-led initiatives on renewable energy deployment.
“Every individual has a role to play in safeguarding our environment. Government will continue to create enabling policies and provide support, but real change happens when our people take ownership of the process. Together, we can build a greener, healthier, and more prosperous Osun State,” he added.
He reassured the public that the Adeleke-led administration remains committed to ensuring that the dividends of democracy, including clean energy and climate resilience, are felt across urban centers and the most remote rural communities.
The meeting once again underscored the Adeleke administration’s vision of inclusive governance, where policies are not only designed at the top but also shaped by the realities and voices of the grassroots. As climate change continues to present new challenges globally, Osun State is setting an example by fostering collaboration, investing in renewable energy, and ensuring that no community is left behind in the journey toward sustainable development.
