An hit-and-run accident on Monday afternoon claimed a 12-year-old student while her 15-year-old sister sustained serious injuries.
The accident occurred around 3:35 p.m. at Ogundare Bus Stop along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway when an unidentified driver, recklessly speeding on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lane, struck the two pedestrians as they made their way home from school.
The victims were left critically injured before being rushed to Orile Agege General Hospital.
Sadly, the younger sibling succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment while the 15-year-old was later transferred to Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) for advanced medical care.
Lagos Commissioner of Police CP Olohundare Jimoh assured the public that a thorough investigation was already underway.
Expressing condolences to the victims’ family, CP Jimoh urged motorists to adhere strictly to traffic regulations, speed limits, and safe driving practices to prevent such tragedies.
He expressed confidence that the Command will get to the root of the matter and ensure justice is served.
