Many men are experiencing issues with the size of their male sex organ that causes them to feel embarrassed in bed, a problem separate from erectile dysfunction.
Research from the Netherlands shows that around half of men are unhappy with their size, harming their self-esteem.
Experts in the journal ”Sexual Medicine” highlight that penis size is linked to ideas of masculinity and power.
As a result, men who feel inadequate often suffer from dissatisfaction, according to psychologist Dewitte Marieke at Maastricht University. This insecurity can lead to shame and avoidance of sexual situations.
Men unhappy with their size report feelings of distress, low self-esteem, and embarrassment. These feelings, combined with anxiety about performance, can lead to erectile dysfunction and a reluctance to engage in sexual activity.
Men who worry about their size tend to have less penetrative and oral sex and are hesitant to start new relationships.
In Nigeria for instance, a significant number of middle aged men experience erectile dysfunction, caused by issues like high blood pressure, diabetes, excessive drinking, stress, and performance anxiety. Worrying about size can also stop men from seeking medical help.
This can delay the diagnosis of serious conditions like testicular cancer, which affects over tens of thousands in the country annually. While 95 percent of testicular cancer cases are treatable, late detection can lead to severe consequences.
Some men may look into penis enlargement surgery, but the medic cautions that many doctors view it as experimental due to low satisfaction and high complication risks.
Instead, she recommends counseling to address harmful beliefs about penis size and erections in relation to enjoyable sex.
