The Sokoto State Government has dissociated Governor Ahmed Aliyu from a viral car and shop donation made to Kaduna-based TikToker, Rahama Saidu, clarifying that the gesture was a private initiative and not linked to the state government.
According to a statement issued on Sunday, signed by the governor’s spokesperson, Abubakar Bawa, the donation, reportedly made by one Sanin Jaman, was a personal act carried out in appreciation of the TikToker’s admiration for the Ahmed Aliyu-led administration.
“The Office wishes to categorically dissociate Governor Ahmed Aliyu from the said donation, as it has no connection whatsoever with the governor or the Sokoto State Government,” the statement read.
According to the statement, the donation was strictly a private arrangement between the donor and the beneficiary, warning individuals against carrying out similar actions in the name of the governor or the state government without due consultation.
“I want to make it categorically clear that the said donation has nothing to do with Governor Ahmed Aliyu. It was purely personal between the two of them — the giver and the beneficiary,” the statement said.
The government noted that while it welcomes genuine support from well-meaning citizens, such contributions should be channelled through proper and more impactful means that align with the administration’s development priorities.
It listed areas under the government’s nine-point SMART agenda, including tackling insecurity, moral upbringing, youth empowerment, environmental sanitation, education, healthcare delivery, and support for vulnerable groups such as orphans, widows and persons living with disabilities.
The statement also highlighted the plight of displaced persons affected by banditry within and outside the Sokoto metropolis, stressing that there remains room for individuals and corporate bodies to complement the government’s intervention efforts.
