Following the recent threat by the government of the United States of America to invade Nigeria over allegations of killing of Christians in the North, the Nigerian presidency has revealed when both countries’ presidents, Donald Trump and Bola Tinubu would resolve their differences.
Daniel Bwala, the special adviser to President Tinubu on policy and communication on Sunday said both leaders have in the past shared similar interests in the fight against terrorism and activities of insurgents across Nigeria and the globe.
According to Bwala, both leaders have also recognised that these forms of terrorism are crimes against humanity with President Trump assisting Nigeria in several ways including, the authorisation of the sale of arms to Africa’s most populous nation.
In a post made on X, Bwala stated that President Tinubu has on his part, made good use of the opportunities presented to Nigeria by showcasing his committment to ending insurgency, which he said is evident in the successes recorded by the military over time.
He said, “President Tinubu has adequately utilised the opportunity in the fight against terrorism for which we have massive results to show for it.”
Bwala further assured that both leaders would meet in due time to discuss and resolve their differences on the alleged cases of Christian genocide and other criminal activities against humanity.
“As for the differences as to whether terrorists in Nigeria target only Christians or in fact all faiths and no faiths, the differences if they exist would be discussed and resolved by the two leaders when they meet in the coming days, either in State House or White House,” Bwala wrote on X.
Recall that Trump had earlier announced the designation of Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern following the growing outrage over cases of Christian genocide across states in the Northern region.
Barley 24 hours after the announcement, Trump went further to warn that if actions are not taken by the Nigerian government to curb the genocide, there would be an invasion of the Nigerian territory by the US Department of War.
Also describing Nigeria as a “now disgraced country”, Trump threatened to stop every aid and assistance to the nation.
He said, “If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the U.S.A. will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria, and may very well go into that now disgraced country, “guns-a-blazing,” to completely wipe out the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities.
“I am hereby instructing our Department of War to prepare for possible action. If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our cherished Christians! WARNING: The Nigerian Government better move fast!” he added.
