Dear Constituents and Friends Worldwide, it has been an eventful couple of weeks from my side to the glory of God and benefit of Mankind. In pursuant of knowledge and all we still need to know about governance, legislation etc (remember one needs to learn, unlearn and relearn), On Monday and Tuesday, December 9th & 10th 2024, alongside various esteemed State Assembly Colleagues which included the Majority & Minority Leaders of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Sanjo Adedoyin & Hon. Salami Ayinde respectively and my female colleague, Hon. Bisi Oluranti Michael , I completed the Oyo State delegates to attend the NATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR LEGISLATIVE AND DEMOCRATIC STUDIES’ 2-Day Conference at the National Assembly, Abuja and Transcorp Hilton Hotels, Abuja.
The conference focused mainly on interactive sessions on Gender-Responsive Constitutional Reform and Campaign on Ending Violence Against Women.
During the Discuss, a major proposal pinpointed was the Introduction and Focus of Temporary Special Measures, including Gender Quotas, to increase women’s participation in politics, which has been my cue and campaign in a long while.
In Championing Gender Inclusion and the fight against Gender-based Violence (GBV) in the country, this is a course I can support with my full chest, with or without sentiment, as the Chairman of Oyo State House of Assembly Committee on Women Affairs and Community Development. You know, it’ll be more appropriate and fair, if the Women are allotted a space in each state’s Senatorial District, culminating in at least a Female Senator from each State, or what do you think?
Present at the conference were the Nigerian Speaker of House of Representatives, Rt Hon Tajudeen Abass; The Chairman, House Committee on Women Affairs at the House of Rep, Hon Mrs Kafilat Ogbara; The Chairman, Conference of Speakers of Nigeria State Assemblies who happens to be my own boss and leader from Oyo State, Rt Hon Adebo Ogundoyin . Selected Honourable Members from diverse States’ Houses of Assembly were also present (State Assemblies’ Majority & Minority Leaders and 2 Female members of the houses of Assembly.)
In conclusion, It is noteworthy that the Social Vice “Gender-Based Violence” is a Societal menace and not just a personal issue so it is one that should incure general curbs/reprimands. We as lawmakers have the duty an enabling environment where women can live, grow and thrive without the fear of being abused or face utter discrimination, and this we shall achieve by God’s Grace.
We also had the luxury and honour to meet the Federal Lawmakers from Oyo State, those whose firsthand experience also aided us in acquiring further knowledge as to what true representation entails.
Looking Forward to talking to you soon as we look to celebrating a beautiful Christmas and New Year Season.
Thank You
E-Signed:
Hon. Dr. Olufunke Comforter Adeniyi-Olajide JP
Chairman, Oyo House Committee on Women Affairs and Community Development
Representing Ibadan North Constituency 1
