The courtroom was thrown into mild drama when Folakemi, visibly distressed and in tears, stormed in and alleged that Emmanuel had secretly married the lawyer who represented them during their divorce proceedings.
According to a report by Hope Newspaper, a publication owned by the Ondo State Government, Folakemi claimed that the female lawyer feigned neutrality during the case while secretly engaging in a romantic relationship with her husband.
“She destroyed my settlement! I believed she was neutral, only to find out she was sleeping with my husband!” Folakemi cried out, alleging that the affair began while the case was still ongoing.
She further accused the lawyer of abusing her position to manipulate the legal process in favor of Emmanuel, leaving her at a disadvantage in the final settlement.
Folakemi urged the court to reopen the case and launch an investigation into what she described as gross professional misconduct and ethical violations.
Emmanuel, however, denied all accusations. Calmly addressing the court, he stated that Folakemi abandoned their marriage less than a year after it began and had completely cut off communication.
“She left me and never looked back. I only found solace in someone who understood my pain,” he said, insisting that his relationship with the lawyer began only after the divorce was finalized.
The lawyer, who was present in court, also refuted the claims, asserting that her relationship with Emmanuel remained strictly professional throughout the legal proceedings.
“There was nothing unethical between Mr. Emmanuel and me during the divorce case,” she said firmly, while murmurs filled the courtroom.
Presiding judge, Ireti Sunday, after listening to all sides, ruled that the court could not take any action based on unproven claims.
“This court does not operate on suspicion alone. No credible evidence has been presented to establish any misconduct or conspiracy,” the judge concluded.
