The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has recovered ₦8.62m during a rescue operation following a road accident on the Zaria-Funtua Road in Kaduna State.
The corps spokesperson, Olusegun Ogungbemide, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
The crash, which occurred around 7pm on September 30, involved a Nigerian Army Ford pickup truck and a speeding Toyota Corolla.
According to the report, the Toyota Corolla, with registration number KTN 316 HK, was speeding in violation of the legal limit when the driver lost control and collided with the Ford pickup, registered as FST 134 FX.
Three people were involved in the accident, with two sustaining various degrees of injury. They were immediately taken to Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Shika, for treatment. The third victim escaped without injury.
During the rescue operation, FRSC personnel found and recovered ₦8.62m from the scene.
The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, commended the rescue team’s swift response and professionalism in handling both the injured and the recovered money.
“The Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps, Shehu Mohammed, has applauded the rescue team of the Corps who successfully recovered the sum of N8,620,000 during a rescue operation that was carried out at the scene of a road traffic crash in Kaduna State,” the statement said.
Mohammed emphasised that speed violations remain one of the leading causes of road crashes in Nigeria and urged motorists to adhere to speed limits.
He also encouraged FRSC operatives to maintain the high standards of integrity for which the Corps is known.
