Sharing this story because I can no longer bear the burden of silence. I am her younger sister, and I’ve witnessed everything firsthand—the Fear, the heartbreak, the unimaginable sacrifices.
I am here to tell the world what happened to my sister, a mother of three, whose life was upended by forces beyond her control. Her name is Bolanle Odunayo Adelekun; I want everyone to know what she endured and why we need justice.
It all began with her husband, Mr Adelekun Olusola Anthony’s involvement in politics. Things seemed fine initially, but everything unraveled when he fell out with some of his political allies. That was when the threats started. People arrived at their home, demanding to know where her husband was. They turned their anger on her and her children when he wasn’t there. “Where is he?” they shouted, making it clear that if she didn’t produce him, her life—and her children’s lives—were in danger.
My sister described the Fear she felt during those moments, and I still can’t get her words out of my mind. “It was like the walls were closing on us,” she told me. Imagine being a mother, standing there, knowing that at any moment, someone might harm your kids. She knew she had to act fast to protect her children.
She left their home, taking refuge at my place. I thought we were safe for a while, and she felt so. But peace didn’t last. Within days, the same people began threatening me. They said I was hiding her, and they wouldn’t stop until they got to her. My sister, always thinking of others, decided to leave again so I wouldn’t be dragged into the mess.
This time, she could only take one of her children with her. Her husband had already fled, taking the other two children. Can you imagine the pain of being separated from your kids, not knowing where they are or if they’re even safe? She was heartbroken and terrified, constantly on the move, with no place to truly call home.
Even in this new place, she remains hidden. She doesn’t disclose her location to anyone, not even me. But the threats haven’t stopped. Recently, I received a letter. It was chilling. The people who caused all this pain are still searching for her, and now they’re targeting me again. The letter demanded that I reveal her whereabouts.
Do they think I know where she is? I don’t, and I would never betray her trust even if I did. But this constant harassment is unbearable. My sister’s journey to safety isn’t over. The danger still lingers, casting a shadow over her new life and leaving the rest of us to deal with the fallout.
This isn’t just her story—it’s our story. It’s the story of every family torn apart by political turmoil and senseless violence. My sister’s only “crime” was marrying someone who fell out of favor with the wrong people. Is this the price we must pay for someone else’s ambitions and grudges?
I’m asking for justice, not just for her but for all of us. My sister has shown a resilience that I can barely comprehend, but no one should have to live in constant Fear like this. Her story reminds me of what countless others go through in silence.
