American rapper, Onika Maraj-Petty, popularly known as Nicki Minaj, has once again spoken out about the killings in Nigeria, urging an end to the violence and calling for the freedom of Christians.
Minaj shared her a message on X on Friday, using a faith-based post to express concern over the situation in Nigeria. She wrote, “On Christ the solid rock I stand. All other grounds is sinking sand. All other ground…” She then added, “FREE THE CHRISTIANS IN NIGERIA!!!!!!!!!! STOP THIS NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
This is not the first time Minaj has addressed the issue. In November, GISTSMATE MEDIA reports she spoke during a United Nations-related event on global religious freedom and violence against Christians in Nigeria.
At the event, United States official Michael Waltz described the killings in Nigeria as “genocide wearing the mask of chaos.”
He said, “In the Middle Belt and in the North, churches burn, mothers bury their children for the crime of singing Amazing Grace; pastors have been beheaded for preaching the sermon on the mount. Entire villages wake up to gunfire because they dare to commit the crime of calling Jesus their Lord.”
Waltz added that the violence was targeted, not random. “This is not random violence. This is genocide wearing the mask of chaos,” he said. He also linked the insecurity to kidnappings, noting, “It just happened yesterday; 25 little girls were ripped out of their school.”
Referencing figures from the NGO Open Doors, Waltz said, “Eighty per cent of the violence against Christians worldwide is occurring in Nigeria.”
Minaj, who also spoke at the briefing, said Christians in Nigeria were being attacked because of their faith. “In Nigeria, Christians are being targeted, driven from their homes, and killed.
“Churches have been burnt, families have been torn apart, and entire communities live in fear constantly, simply because of how they pray,” she said. She framed the issue as part of a broader global challenge and thanked former United States President Donald Trump for drawing attention to it.
However, the Nigerian government has relentlessly denied this allegation, clarifying that the situation in Nigeria targets no specific religion as people across different faiths are being killed by bandits and insurgents.
Likewise, Tribune Online reports that a visiting United States legislator, Rep. Riley Moore, hailed his recent engagement with Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, describing the talks as “productive and positive”.
He also praised the Federal Government for the rescue of abducted Catholic schoolchildren, an outcome he said demonstrated Nigeria’s strengthened response to insecurity.
In a statement posted on his X handle, the US lawmaker said the discussions produced “concrete steps and actions” that, if fully carried out, “will enhance security across the country for all Nigerians, disrupt and destroy terrorist organisations in the north-east and stop the killing of Christians, a specific concern for @POTUS and myself, particularly in the Middle Belt of the country.”
