Former PFN President Speaks On Christians Carrying Arms Over Insecurity

Former President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Rev. Felix Omobude, says that even though terrorists are targeting Christians with killings and kidnappings, church leaders will not encourage Christians to take up arms.

Speaking in an interview on Sunday, Omobude said churches can organise proper security during services, but taking up weapons is not an option.

He said there is nothing wrong with the Nigerian government seeking help from other countries to fight terrorism, adding that no one would have believed 15 years ago that Nigeria would be facing this level of insecurity.

Omobude explained that calling Christians to carry arms would be irresponsible because violence only leads to more violence.

“We don’t have another country. We want a united Nigeria, and our decision to stay calm should not be taken as weakness,” he said.

He added that the church will continue to pray, speak out, and teach people the right things, rather than promote violence.

Omobude also said Nigeria has already been infiltrated by foreigners, and the argument that accepting foreign help would affect the country’s sovereignty “does not make sense.”
