The leader of Yemenās Houthi Movement, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, has declared the groupās official alignment with Iran in its escalating war against the United States and Israel, raising fears of a broader regional war across the Middle East.
In a televised broadcast monitored on Friday, Al-Houthi accused the United States of backing Israelās military objectives in the region, warning that any American involvement in support of Israel against Iran would be treated as a direct threat to Yemen and the wider āIslamic nation.ā
āBecause he considers it the biggest obstacle in the way of accomplishing his plan,ā Al-Houthi said, in a speech laced with ideological and religious undertones.
āTherefore, any attack or US aggression supporting the Israeli enemy against Iran within the framework of the goal itself, is a throw to empower the Israeli enemy from controlling the entire region. And this is what cannot be silenced.ā
The statement marks a significant escalation in rhetoric from the Iran-aligned Houthi Movement, which has already been involved in attacks on shipping routes in the Red Sea and has previously launched projectiles toward Israeli-linked targets.
Al-Houthi framed the conflict as an existential struggle, warning that Western and Israeli influence in the region would result in domination, loss of sovereignty, and exploitation of resources.
āBecause it means the export of freedom, independence and dignity of our nation. And its enslavement and humiliation. And the confiscation of its identity,ā he said.
āAnd the occupation of its lands. And the plundering of its wealth.ā
The Houthi leader further described the confrontation as a collective battle for the Muslim world, calling for unity and resistance under religious justification.
āTherefore, the battle is the battle of the whole nation. And the salvation of the nation, honour and victory in the movement in Jihad in the way of Allah,ā he declared.
Quoting Islamic scripture, he added, āAs Allah said, fight in the way of Allah and know that Allah is all-hearing and all-knowing.ā
The speech, translated by Dima Kamal Masri, signals a formal declaration of support for Iran amid rising hostilities involving Israeli strikes and retaliatory actions across the region.
Security analysts warn that the Houthisā open entry into the conflict could further destabilise key maritime corridors, particularly the Red Sea, a critical global trade route, and heighten the risk of direct confrontation with U.S. forces already deployed in the region.
The development comes amid growing concerns from international observers that the conflict between Iran and Israel, now drawing in allied non-state actors, could spiral into a full-scale regional war with far-reaching humanitarian and economic consequences.
