GISTSMATE MEDIA reports that President Bola Tinubu has sought to adjust the 2026 budget by adding N9.0trillion.
His request was contained in a letter read to senators in Abuja on Tuesday by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio.
The original 2026 budget, which is currently before the National Assembly, is N58.47 trillion.
The additional request will raise the total budget size to about N67.47 trillion.
Tinubu explained that the adjustment was aimed at strengthening fiscal transparency and ensuring the effective implementation of priority national programmes.
The President outlined three key objectives behind the request, including to regularise and account for outstanding legal commitments carried over from previous appropriation cycles, preventing them from burdening the execution of the 2026 budget.
The Senate was billed to pass the 2026 budget on Tuesday, but the additional request might have to delay the process.
In a similar vein, Tinubu submitted two loan requests for approval.
The first one -USD5billion- is from First Abu Dhabi Bank in the United Arab Emirates.
A second request of Ā£1.9bn to be sourced from City Bank, is for the upgrade of Apapa and Tin Can ports in Lagos.
The Senate immediately referred the requests to its relevant committees and went into a closed-door session.
