President Bola Tinubu has asked the senate to confirm the appointment of Bosun Tijani, minister of communications, innovation, and digital economy, as chairman of the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF) board.
In a letter read at Wednesday plenary by Godswill Akpabio, the senate president, Tinubu said the nomination was in line with section 116 of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) Act of 2003.
“In accordance with the provisions of section 116 of the Nigerian Communications Commission Act 2003, I am pleased to present, for confirmation by the senate, the appointment of the underlisted eight persons as chairman and members of the board of Universal Service Provision Board (USPF),” the letter read.
The nominees are Idris Olorunimbe as vice-chairman; Abraham Oshidami, Rimini Makama, Aliyu Edogi Aliyu for the ministry of communications; Joseph B. Faluyi representing the ministry of finance; and Auwal Mohammed for the ministry of budget and national planning.
Other nominees are Uzoma Dozie, Peter Bankole, Abayomi Anthony Okanlawon, and Gafar Oluwasegun Quadri.
Tinubu urged the senate to give the request prompt consideration.
“While it is my hope that the senate will consider and confirm the nominees in its usual expeditious manner, please accept, distinguished senate president and distinguished senators, the assurances of my highest constitutional and personal regards,” he said.
Akpabio referred the nomination to the senate committee on communications and directed it to report back within one week.
