Popular TikToker Garibay Esmeralda, her husband and two kids were found dead inside an abandoned pick-up truck in Mexico.
According to report by Tuko, Garibay’s body was found along with her husband, Roberto Carlos Gil Licea (36), son Gael Santiago (13), and daughter Regina (7).
The 32-year-old Garibay had gained attention for flaunting her luxurious lifestyle online, with some posts hinting at her husband’s alleged involvement in the Mexican drug trade.
She had made a name for herself on TikTok by openly sharing her luxury lifestyle, including designer bags, expensive cars, cosmetic procedures, and lavish vacations with her followers.
They were discovered inside an abandoned gray Ford Ranger in Guadalajara on August 22, according to the New York Post.
The case allegedly took a shocking turn after the initial suspects arrested in connection to the murders were released, only to face an unexpected and dangerous incident shortly after.
“Police reviewed CCTV footage and tracked the pick-up to a nearby auto repair shop, where they discovered bloodstains, spent bullet casings, and other ballistic clues indicating the family was probably killed there before being moved.
“Two men at the repair shop were arrested but released after police said there was not enough evidence against them.
“Shockingly, the same men were kidnapped just minutes after leaving the prosecutor’s office.
“The family’s identities were confirmed on August 28, with reports suggesting the husband may have been the intended target of the killings,” Tuko reports.
Observers view that Esmeralda must have been killed because she was known for posting videos lip-syncing to narco-corridos, a Mexican music genre often associated with drug cartels, with some content implying her husband’s involvement in the Mexican drug trade.
A TikTok video posted on her page is said to have read: “Advantages of having a narco boyfriend.”
