Tragedy struck in the Lakowe area of Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State, as a popular skit maker and hairstylist, identified simply as Austin, was brutally murdered by suspected cultists.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, August 14, when the armed men reportedly stormed his residence. Eyewitnesses said the assailants dragged him out of his room before hacking him to death.
One resident recounted that Austin’s hand was also severed during the attack.
“There was some noise in the community early that morning, but no one knew what it was about. Later, we heard someone had been killed. When we got to the scene, it was Austin lying lifeless with machete cuts, and his hand had been cut off,” the resident recounted.
It was further gathered that Austin, who was well-known in the community as a hairstylist and entertainer, may have sensed the danger. He reportedly posted a cryptic farewell message on his WhatsApp status a day before his death.
Another resident described him as “talented and widely loved,” adding that his sudden death has thrown the neighbourhood into shock.
A video circulating online showed Austin’s body lying on the ground, surrounded by sympathisers.
