MultiChoice Nigeria has reduced the price of its DStv decoder by 50 per cent, from β¦20,000 to β¦10,000, as part of a new campaign aimed at boosting subscriptions and addressing recent declines in customer numbers.
The companyβs Chief Executive Officer, John Ugbe, announced the price cut in a statement on Tuesday, noting that it forms part of the βWe Got Youβ campaign, which is intended to offer more value to existing and prospective customers.
βWe want to ensure our customers feel appreciated and have access to the best entertainment every day,β Ugbe said. βThe campaign is about making premium content more accessible and showing that DStv offers something for everyone, not just football fans.β
MultiChoice also introduced a promotional offer that allows subscribers to receive a free upgrade to the next package tier when they pay for their current plan in full. The offer runs from June 16 to July 31, 2025.
The company stated that both the price reduction and the free upgrade are measures designed to respond to economic pressures affecting many Nigerians.
MultiChoice lost 1.4 million subscribers between March 2023 and March 2025.
The drop followed a series of price increases implemented within the same period β first in April 2023, again in November 2023, and most recently in April 2024, with the new rates taking effect from May 1.
