FLASH: Matter Resolved, Osimhen Not Leaving AFCON Camp – NFF Official

A top official of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has dismissed rumours that Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen would leave the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) camp in Morocco.

On Tuesday, some reports claimed that Osimhen said he was leaving the camp for Turkey. “Confirmed reports have it that Victor Osimhen said he was done with the national team. He dropped his accreditation and said he was going to Turkey.”

However, the NFF official clarified the situation after speaking with FIFA- and CAF-accredited journalist Adepoju Samuel, confirming that the matter had been resolved.

Samuel wrote on his X handle on Tuesday, “A top team official just confirmed the latest situation over yesterday’s incident.

“The official said everything has been sorted since last night, and we are all good. There was no discussion about Osimhen leaving the tournament. The issue has been resolved as a family.”

The incident occurred in the 63rd minute, when Osimhen appeared frustrated after Lookman, who had already created two chances for him, failed to capitalize on an opportunity.

Footage showed Osimhen pulling away from Captain Wilfred Ndidi, pointing at Lookman, and shouting in displeasure. He could be heard saying in pidgin:

“No try am again,” meaning “do not try that again.” Osimhen later requested to be substituted and was booed by fans as Moses Simon replaced him.

The outburst sparked criticism on social media, with fans questioning Osimhen’s behaviour despite Nigeria’s dominant performance.

However, Lookman addressed the rumours on Tuesday by posting pictures on Instagram with Osimhen and Bruno Onyemaechi on the pitch after the win, captioning the images:

“Together always.”

Both Eagles coach Eric Chelle and Captain Wilfred Ndidi have also dismissed claims of a misunderstanding between the two forwards, urging Nigerians to continue supporting the team as they prepare for their quarter-final clash against either Algeria.
