GISTSMATE MEDIA reports that the Iranian state media has reportedly confirmed that Akbar Ghaffari, the country’s Deputy Minister of Intelligence, was killed during joint U.S.–Israeli airstrikes in Tehran.
According to reports from the Iranian news agency ILNA and other outlets, Ghaffari previously served as the political-security deputy governor of East Azerbaijan province.
His funeral was reportedly held in the city of Tabriz.
The strike is part of a larger military campaign that has also targeted other high-ranking officials, including:
Aziz Nasirzadeh, the Iranian Defense Minister (reported killed March 1, 2026),
Esmail Dehghan, a commander in the IRGC Aerospace Force.
These events occur amidst a major regional conflict, during which the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported that the IDF has claimed to have eliminated over 1,900 Iranian commanders and soldiers since late February 2026.
GISTSMATE MEDIA reported that Iran’s new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, disclosed on Thursday that Tehran will avenge the blood of its martyrs.
Khamenei – who has not been seen in public since his father Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed on 28 February – is reported to have said this is especially true of the victims of an airstrike at an elementary school in Minab, where Iran says 175 people, mostly children were killed.
In the message read by a state broadcaster, the 56-year-old leader said all US bases in the region should be closed, threatening future attacks.
The statement claimed Iran still has a policy of “friendship” with its neighbours, but signalled Iran would continue its blockade of the Strait of Hormuz as a tool of leverage to pressure the US. Read more
