Reports from Iranian state media, including the Fars News Agency, indicate that Brigadier General Ismail Dehghan, a commander in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Force, was assassinated in the city of Arak.
The assassination reportedly took place in a residential house in Arak, a city in central Iran.
Reports released on March 12, 2026, state the incident occurred “two days ago,” placing the event around March 10, 2026.
Dehghan was reportedly killed during joint U.S.-Israeli strikes that targeted various Iranian infrastructures.
In addition to the commander, an overnight strike in Arak reportedly killed five civilians from Dehghan’s family.
A funeral service for General Dehghan was held in Arak on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
This event is part of a broader escalation in the region, with recent reports also noting the deaths of other high-ranking Iranian officials, including IRGC Chief Mohammad Pakpour and former Aerospace Force commander Amir Ali Hajizadeh.

Israel’s military has threatened to target any successor to former supreme leader Ali Khamenei, who was killed in the first wave of US and Israeli strikes on Iran.
US President Donald Trump had previously dismissed Mojtaba Khamenei as a “lightweight”, and insisted he should have a say in appointing a new Iranian leader.
