In a disturbing incident, a journalist identified as Mr. Oladuni Sunday was allegedly assaulted by operatives of Southwest Security Network (Amotekun) and Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) at Eleyele, Ibadan, the state capital.
This unfortunate incident occured while the Journalist was on his way for an official assignment on Monday.
According to a statement obtained by Eagle’s Sight News, Mr. Sunday narrated:
“I was heading to Ogunpa from Eleyele and wanted to take a bike(Motorcycle) , but Amotekun and OYRTMA were chasing riders.Other commuters and I walked to the designated junction for the bike man to board a bike to my destination but I realized OYRTMA officers were equally dragging the bike man.This became uncomfortable for me and so I asked about his offense, but he challenged me of pokenosing into the matters that does not concern me , and I had to identified myself as a journalist.
Since this act by the officers affected several others lamenting over different threats by the OYRTMA and Amotekun officials , I had to investigate into the matter through a life video .But Suddenly, an Amotekun officer pointed a gun at me.”
“‘You don’t need a gun to harass innocent people,’ I told them. But they didn’t listen. They beat me, took my phone, and dared me to take action.”
Mr. Sunday demands justice, calling on relevant authorities to investigate and hold the officers accountable.
The incident has sparked outrage, with calls for immediate investigation and prosecution of involved officers, return of confiscated equipment (phone), and protection for journalists exercising their constitutional rights.
