Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed the chances of former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, securing the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme aired on Tuesday, Wike said Amaechi was the “last person” the opposition coalition platform would consider for its ticket.
The minister was reacting to Amaechi’s recent remarks where the former Transportation Minister boasted that he would end corruption within one month if elected president in 2027. Amaechi had also claimed he knew President Bola Tinubu “too well” and could defeat him in the next election.
But Wike dismissed the assertions, insisting Amaechi had no viable political path even within the ADC.
“No, he cannot. He’s the last person they will give the ticket to because that will be dead on arrival,” Wike said.
“In 2014 and 2015, when he was governor, I ran against him. What happened? We defeated him. Even as Director-General of Buhari’s campaign, he couldn’t secure 15 percent in Rivers. The facts are there.”
Amaechi is among several opposition figures reportedly seeking the coalition’s platform to challenge Tinubu in 2027.
