FG Honours Teenager For Emerging World Best In English Contest

The Federal Government on Thursday honoured Miss Nafisa Abdullahi Aminu, a 17-year-old student from Yobe State, for emerging as the World’s Best in English Language Skills at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals held in London, United Kingdom.

Nafisa Aminu was honoured alongside two students from Yobe State, namely Rukayya Muhammad Fema and Hadiza Kashim Kalli, who emerged World champions in English language skills, overall debate, and productive communication skills, respectively, at the just concluded 2025 TeenEagle Global competition.

Speaking at the special recognition ceremony, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, alongside the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suiwaba Sa’id Ahmad, hailed Nafisa’s remarkable feat and other students who excelled during the competition.

They described her as “a beacon of excellence and inspiration to Nigerian youths.”

Representing Nigeria through the Nigerian Tulip International College, Nafisa outshone more than 20,000 participants from 69 countries, including native English-speaking nations, to clinch the world title.

The TeenEagle competition is an internationally acclaimed contest that evaluates students’ proficiency in English language, critical thinking, and communication skills.

Speaking further, Alausa said the Federal Government is laying the groundwork for stronger foundational education to reduce the number of out-of-school children in the country.

He noted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has demonstrated a strong commitment to human capital development through increased investment in education, health, and social protection.

“You are the future of Nigeria, and you have made us proud. For the first time in the history of our nation, we have one of the highest budgetary allocations to education.

“Each time we approach the President for support in the sector, his response has been a resounding ‘yes’ because he believes in you, the children of Nigeria. Your success gives us the confidence to ask for more, and we will continue to do so on your behalf,” the Minister said.

The Minister also announced a gift of over N100,000 to Nafisa and her other colleagues who excel in other fields.

The high-level delegation from Yobe State that accompanied Nafisa includes Yobe State Commissioner of Information, Alhaji Abdullahi Bego, Commissioner for Basic Education, Yobe State, Prof. Abba Idris and Mamman Mohammed, Director General, Media and Press Affairs to Yobe state Governo,r among others.

The Commissioner for Basic Education, Yobe State, Prof. Abba Idris, in his remark, conveyed the gratitude of the Governor of Yobe State Dr. Mai Mala Buni and the people of Yobe State, to Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Education for hosting the three “brilliant girls who have done Nigeria and indeed the black race proud”.

Idris appreciated the Minister for the invaluable recognition and commendation of Governor Buni for his commitment to foundational education and the achievements recorded in basic education delivery in the state.

According to him, the State Government under his leadership ,through dedication and commitment, has consistently paid all its matching grants from 2019 to date to the Universal Basic Education Commission for the state to access the UBEC matching grant to execute capital projects in the Basic Education Sector.

On her part, Prof. Ahmad commended Nafisa’s resilience, intellect, and determination, pledging the Federal Government’s continued support for young talents who bring honour to the nation.

“Nigerian youths can compete and excel globally. Nafisa has demonstrated that Nigeria is blessed and can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the best in the world. You are a shining example.”

She urged Nafisa to see the achievement as the beginning of a greater journey, while commending her parents and teachers for providing the foundation for her success.

Responding, Nafisa appreciated the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister for creating an environment for her to excel, while thanking her school, NTIC and her parent for the support.
