Fresh controversy has erupted in the ongoing Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) scandal following confirmation that Dolapo Babatunde Tanimola, the man allegedly serving as the key link between self-styled PFIPC Director-General Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi Mathew (also referred to as Adeniyi Mathew) and Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, died in a suspicious hotel fire late last year.
Tanimola, described by Adeyemi as the sole intermediary who assisted in procuring the disputed appointment letter, perished in a fire at Kachi Hotel in Utako, Abuja, on October 22, 2025.
His death occurred just five days before Adeyemi’s arrest on October 27, 2025, according to police and presidency statements.
Authorities confirmed Tanimola’s death through multiple sources, including interviews with relatives, the hotel proprietor, and verification at the National Hospital, with his burial recorded at St. Matthew’s Anglican Church, Maitama. His body was reportedly viewed at the morgue.
However, the timing and circumstances of the fire have fueled suspicions of foul play, particularly as Adeyemi has reportedly pushed for further investigation into what he calls a possible assassination.
No detailed public report on the cause of the fire has been released, leaving questions about whether it was accidental or deliberately set.
Critics and social media users have highlighted Tanimola’s role as a potential “star witness” whose sudden death removes a direct link in the bribery allegations swirling around the scandal.
Adeyemi has countered with explosive claims, alleging that Gbajabiamila received ₦400 million through a proxy, demanded an additional ₦200 million, and sought 48% of the council’s purported ₦27.4 billion take-off grant. He maintains the council had physical offices, bank accounts, and even budget allocations.
The Presidency has strongly denied these allegations, stating that Adeyemi is facing trial and that Tanimola’s assistance in obtaining the forged letter could not be verified due to his prior death.
Questions remain about how the operation allegedly secured office space in the Federal Secretariat, opened accounts (including one with the Central Bank), engaged foreign missions, and appeared in budget documents for ₦1.3 billion in appropriations if it was entirely fraudulent.
The death of Tanimola has intensified calls for a thorough, independent probe. Opposition figures and commentators have questioned institutional safeguards and suggested deeper involvement within the system. Supporters of the administration maintain that Adeyemi is a sophisticated impostor operating without high-level backing
