Ex-Minister Slumps, Dies While Playing Tennis In Lagos

Former Military Administrator of Bayelsa State and retired Navy Captain, Omoniyi Caleb Olubolade, has passed away at the age of 70.

The Ipoti-Ekiti-born former minister died on Sunday, May 11, 2025, in Apapa, Lagos. He had marked his 70th birthday just months earlier, on November 30, 2024.

In a statement jointly signed by his daughter, Mrs. Oluwayemisi Akinadewo, and son, Mr. Dayo Olubolade, the family said he had driven himself to a local tennis facility where he coll@psed while playing.

“Despite prompt efforts by nearby medical personnel to revive him, he was unresponsive. He was rushed to Obisesan Naval Medical Hospital in Apapa, where he was declared de@d,” the statement read.

Olubolade previously served as Minister of Special Duties, Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, and Minister of Police Affairs.
