El-Rufai Spends Second Night In EFCC Custody

A former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has spent the second night in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), GISTSMATE MEDIA reports.

It was learnt that the chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) was still providing answers to questions being asked by the detectives of the agency.

Our correspondent had on Monday reported how the operatives of the anti-graft agency grilled the former governor for several hours after honouring the invitation extended to him.

He was subsequently detained over an ongoing probe into some missing funds to the tune of N432bn when he held sway in Kaduna State as governor.

In the same vein, El-Rufai is also expected to face criminal prosecution over the alleged bugging of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu’s phone.

Further checks showed that in Nigeria, unauthorised phone tapping is a serious offence. According to the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act 2015, offenders can face up to 10 years imprisonment, fines of up to N10m or both.

Giving an update on Tuesday, a source confided in Daily Trust that El-Rufai would still be in detention till Wednesday, saying he may be granted administrative bail.

“As of now, he would do a vigil with the commission. He’s not going home tonight. I don’t know of tomorrow (Wednesday), but I can confirm to you that he’s with us,” the source told Daily Trust on Tuesday.
