A students’ advocacy group has called on Senator Mohamed Bomai to increase his investment in education, particularly in initiatives that directly impact the lives of underprivileged students.
The appeal was made during a Sallah message delivered by the Chairman of the Students Stakeholders Forum, Amb. Aminu Habibu, who emphasized the urgent need for meaningful projects at the Federal College of Education (Technical), Potiskum.
While commending Senator Bomai’s performance and describing him as one of the most outstanding senators produced in the history of the zone, the group challenged him to extend his philanthropic efforts and constituency projects to the institution.
They noted that the college remains the only major tertiary institution in the senatorial district and has recently been upgraded to a degree-awarding institution.
The group stressed that this new status further justifies the need for increased infrastructural development and educational support from prominent indigenes of Potiskum, especially Senator Bomai, who once served the institution as a bursar.
They highlighted the importance of investing in critical infrastructure, as well as providing scholarships and financial support to ease the burden on students across the zone and Yobe State at large.
Amb. Aminu Habibu expressed optimism that Senator Bomai, as a strong advocate of education, would respond positively and promptly by initiating impactful projects that would leave a lasting legacy in the institution.
He cited examples of contributions made by other notable figures, noting how students benefit from facilities such as the Adamu Waziri Computer Complex and transportation support for academic excursions.
He added that students expect even greater contributions from Senator Bomai, given his direct connection to the institution.
The group also commended the Provost of the College, Dr. Mohammed M. Yunusa, for his efforts in advancing the development of the college, particularly the progress made on the permanent site, which is expected to address land constraints as the institution simultaneously runs degree and NCE programmes.
In conclusion, the group emphasized the importance of strengthening and promoting the college, noting that such efforts would enhance access to quality education for residents of Zone B and beyond, especially now that degree programmes are available locally.
