Yobe State Police Command has commenced a manhunt for an 18-year-old housewife who allegedly attacked her 25-year-old husband, inflicting a deep cut on his genitalia.
The announcement was made by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, in a statement issued to journalists in Damaturu on Saturday, stating that the Command recorded a disturbing case of domestic violence involving grievous bodily harm.
According to him, “On 6th February 2026, at about 1500 hours, the Potiskum Divisional Police Headquarters received a distress call reporting a violent domestic incident which occurred earlier the same day at about 0100 hours.”
The PPRO stated, “One Khadija Jamilu, aged 18 years, now at large, allegedly attacked her husband, aged 25 years, both of the same address, using a knife and inflicted a deep cut injury on his genital organ.”
Following the report, police operatives promptly visited the scene and rushed the victim to the State Specialist Hospital, Potiskum, for urgent medical attention. He was subsequently referred to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Azare, where he is currently receiving treatment.
Efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect, while investigations into the case continue.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Ado, strongly condemned the act and emphasised that marriage should be built on mutual respect, understanding, patience, and tolerance. He stressed that marriage must never be an avenue for violence, abuse, or humiliation, and further advised couples and intending spouses to seek proper counselling before and during marriage.
Couples are advised to embrace peaceful dialogue and anger management during conflicts, involve parents, guardians, religious leaders, or trusted mediators when misunderstandings escalate, and avoid resolving marital disputes through violence, as it often leads to irreversible consequences.
The Command also called on community leaders, families, and relevant stakeholders to create awareness among youths on the dos and don’ts of marriage, conflict resolution, and healthy relationships.
The Command assured that it remains committed to the protection of lives and dignity and will ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.
