Drama As Physically Challenged Individuals Disrupt Traffic At Lagos Airport

Another commotion erupted at the Murtala Mohammed Airport in Lagos on Monday, as the access road from the local to international wing of the Lagos airport was blocked by physically challenged individuals.

The traffic disruption took hours, causing untold pain to travellers, some of whom resolved to trek as there were no vehicles in sight

Vehicles got stuck at some point, causing agitation among the road users, particularly those rushing to catch their flights

The physically challenged individuals mobilised at the MM2 roundabout section of the road.

This is coming as the industry is just trying to wriggle out of crises caused by security breaches, caused by some passengers said not to have complied with rules.

Group Captain John Ojikutu, an airport security expert, expressed frustration over the situation, recalling his previous suggestions to restrict public vehicular movement and install tollgates to alleviate congestion and improve airport security.

“Four years ago, I told FAAN to restrict public vehicular movement from Ikeja through the airport to Oshodi/Apapa and vice versa. That’s the road transiting the domestic GAT terminal to the international. I told FAAN it is the airport service road not public road.

“Put tollgates at the entry points on the roads from Ikeja into the airport domestic terminal and off the road from Oshodi into the international terminals. But thfat has not been attended to,” he said

The blockage has caused significant disruptions to air passengers and the general public, highlighting the need for efficient airport road management.

Ojikutu’s concerns emphasise the importance of implementing measures to prevent such incidents and ensure smooth airport operations.
